Satisfied that at last the ideal situation had arisen for them to put their plans into operation, the Premier of the Government of the European Sector of Earth read the report. Yes, this was the perfect opportunity. Planet 666 had already been battered by meteor storm and was now beset by steerage control problems, but nevertheless although disabled was still limping in its orbit therefore from the Prime Minister's point of view it was attainable.
He re-read the report and smiled making mental notes, they would at last be able to gain access to that man-made Planet and eliminate it as a constant source of annoyance by installing their own military base. That action would give them complete control of not only Planet 666, but also the explored Universe and every Planet no matter by whom colonized, within its far-reaching range. Then with these aims accomplished his Government would repossess the 'Islands of Hope'.
Now seriously ill Agatha Plevensey-Smythe Calder who had been recently released from the mental hospital to which she had been confined due to her involvement in the death of her husband, is re-ensconced at her home Plevensey Manor. There Trudy Jakes is caring for her, and besides acting as her social secretary is the sister of her late husband Hubert who was a councillor from Planet 666.
The sudden inexplicable death of Trudy, muddies the water still further as Jason Ryan who was Trudy's fiancee begins to build a relationship with Agatha strengthened when Trudy's death is deemed murder and the search for her murderer begins.

‘Pink, yellow, blue, green: his small voice murmured the colours as his chubby black hands carefully piled the wooden blocks on each other and determinedly he held back his tears. Were there any grown-ups left on the planet to look after him and feed him? Why had he been left behind? He’d only gone to sleep in his safety box, where he had been hidden by Mummy and Daddy before they had been taken away and killed by being sent to the Universe.’
This was the sudden memory recalled in April 2573 AD as Nathan stepped into the empty space that had been the crèche when he was small. A decade and a half had passed since then and the majority of the people from the Planet now lived on Earth provided that they paid the levy for the right to do so. Others lived in their own country a group of islands in the English Channel known as ‘Our Islands of Hope.’
This small group of previously uninhabited non-active volcanic islands was now an independent country bought from Earth’s ESG by the Council of Planet 666 yet despite the Planet’s autonomy Earths Government continues to misrepresent Planet 666. Portraying it as a protectorate of the European Sector, to which they were still being denied access.
Nathan wondered as he looked round the empty area what their lives would have been like had the law of inheritance been passed? This would have meant his Dad Shane, Derek and himself would have had to live on the Planet, while his Mum Natasha and sister Abigail had to live on Earth. Thankfully, the law specifically targeting the Planetarians, became enmeshed in the upper house and was never passed, thanks to Glade Browning.
Nathan was here because of their ongoing demands to put a military base on the Planet. This would never be acceded to in spite of Earth’s maintenance of the ongoing fallacy that the base was for the protection of, not only the Planet, and Earth but also every natural Planet colonised or not within their galaxy. In reality they wanted to control in its entirety all of the present, explored and charted planets known to man.
Earth’s government also regularly tried to rescind ‘The Islands of Hope’ rights to be a separate sovereign country.
Nevertheless the islands continue to be a thriving community, which is self-supporting and generates enough income to pay the levies of all the Planetarians who do not live on them. No longer needed to help defray the cost of keeping Planet 666 in orbit, its Holiday Resort has been dismantled, and Earth, defying all predictions, still spins on its axis and gives life to its inhabitants.
Today Nathan has landed with a destruction crew their brief to give a final search of the Planet to ensure it is completely empty of people before utterly destroying it. Simple? No further horrors beset Nathan and his team extending the task for several months as the Planet spins out of control into unexplored space.
Meanwhile Nathan’s five-year-old son watches his birthday candle slowly burn away. Fretting it would burn it’s self out before his father returned certain if it did he would never see his father again, and they would never again blow out the birthday candle together.
